worship

Every Sunday morning at Berean, God's people gather to praise His name. Author John Piper says "You have capacities for joy which you can scarcely imagine. They were made for the enjoyment of God. He can awaken them no matter how long they have lain asleep." It is our desire to draw near to God in worship, so that our fellowship with Him may "awaken" that joy. Our hearts find their true fulfillment when we know and rejoice in our Creator.

Our philosophy of ministry at Berean heavily influences the style of worship that we incorporate into our services. Combining traditional hymns and contemporary songs of worship, Berean's worship team helps to create a spirit of true praise. "True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him." John 4:23 We believe that neither the truth nor the spirit of worship should be neglected. When God's people are serious about giving God the glory of which He is worthy, they will be extravagant in their service, their giving, and their worship of Him.

Jonathan Willis, (picture coming soon) our Worship leader and a true blessing from God, was recently added to our church staff. Currently majoring in worship music at Liberty University, Jonathan has heard God's calling and works part-time in leading our very powerful worship team. His deep faith and spiritual depth, along with him being a gifted musician, brings much added value to our congregation. He knows that one day he will be ready to stand as our full-time worship Pastor.

At Berean, we believe that contemporary style and profound truth can coexist in our worship. We seek to choose worship music that engages both the hearts and minds of those worshiping. We also believe that great Christian hymns should be learned and not lost in the search for an "up-to-date" sound. And so, we try to draw from the best of both old and new Christian traditions in music, believing that both are valuable for the church today.

Our worship celebration seeks to stretch our concept of what worship is. At Berean, we not only sing, but also read scripture, engage in adoration of God during times of quiet worship, affirm the historic creeds of the church, and lead in corporate prayer.

We invite you to join us as we worship the most High God and Jesus His Son!
